Liberals Speak With Forked-Tongues Liberals hit the Sunday morning talk show circuit and issued back-handed and threatening statements. Senator Dianne Feinstein told CBS' Face The Nation that she, "hopes not to see a filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito." And while she did add that she saw no need for a filibuster, she would NOT simply state that there would be no filibuster. Senator Tim Johnson likewise attempted to dismiss the prospect of a filibuster but then said -- almost in the same breath -- he would not rule out taking part in a filibuster if one were to develop: "As a matter of principle, I'm not taking any position, parliamentary or otherwise, off the table." Senator Chuck Schumer was more blunt. According to NewsMax.com: "Leading Senate Judiciary Committee member Charles Schumer, D-NY, said Sunday that it was too early to rule out a filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, even though Committee Democrats failed to land a glove on Alito during a week of tough questioning." While the pundits and talking heads are speculating that Alito's confirmation is possibly a "done-deal," the dancing and political side-stepping of these liberal senators raises some very important questions:
Judge Alito’s opponents have shown you on so many occasions that they are masters of delay and obstruction. They have spent millions to defeat his nomination. Don’t be fooled – they are going to spend even more money, launch more personal attacks, spread more innuendo and ramp up their obstruction campaign, in an effort defeat Alito. The American Bar Association Praised Alito The American Bar Association gave Judge Alito its highest rating but that means little to the liberal interest groups that are spending millions of dollars to defeat this nomination. They know the stakes are high. They know that placing Judge Alito on the Supreme Court would restore balance to the High Court and put an end to the Left's ability to legislate from the bench. Here's what some of them had to say: The NAACP said Alito's confirmation to the Supreme Court "would be to the detriment of the nation." Americans United for Separation of Church and State said Alito, "would fundamentally alter First Amendment law." Norman Lear's, People for the American Way said Alito, "has compiled an extensive, extreme right-wing judicial record..." And the ultra-left Human Rights Campaign called Alito, "the wrong choice for the Supreme Court." Senator Patrick Leahy initially said: "Instead of uniting the country through his choice, the president has chosen to reward one faction of his party, at the risk of dividing the country." Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) echoed Leahy and other Liberal Senators in his stringing together of leftwing clichés. He attacked President Bush for not picking someone in the "mold of Sandra Day O'Connor, who would unify us." Senator Schumer said, "The president seems to want to hunker down in his bunker."
