Just minutes…

…That’s how long it took Senate Democrats and their special interest puppet masters to begin their multi-million dollar smear campaign against Judge Samuel Alito, Jr., President Bush’s nominee to be the next Associate Justice on the Supreme Court.

“This is a nominee based on weakness, not strength…,” cried Teddy Kennedy. 

“[President Bush] has chosen to divide Americans with a nominee guaranteed to cause a bitter fight,” shouted Ralph Neas, President of the euphemistically-named People for the American Way (PFAW).

"Now the gauntlet has been… thrown down. It was humiliating, it was degrading...” said Kate Michelman, former president of NARAL.

Ultra-liberal MoveOn.org immediately launched a massive, “emergency” campaign aimed at mobilizing a quarter of a million liberal activists to urge Senators to “reject Alito’s nomination.”

And, with the nomination only hours old, some Senate Democrats were already drawing up plans to filibuster this nomination in an effort to deny Judge Alito a fair up-or-down vote on the Senate floor.

The truth is, however, Judge Alito is one of the brightest legal minds in America, who WAS unanimously confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3^rd Circuit in 1990 by a Democrat-controlled Senate. 

He will bring a wealth of experience to the High Court, having worked for more than 30 years in public service, including 15 years as a federal appeals court judge.

Throughout his career, even his adversaries have described Judge Alito as a fair-minded, even-tempered jurist.  He is a strong conservative with a lengthy track record of interpreting the Constitution and upholding the rule of law, not legislating from the bench.

Simply put, Judge Alito is exactly the type of jurist the American people want on the Supreme Court.

In 1990, it took the Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee all of 15 minutes to conclude its confirmation hearing on Judge Alito’s nomination to the 3^rd Circuit. 

During that hearing, Senator Ted Kennedy praised Judge Alito’s “distinguished career” by telling the judge…

"You have obviously had a very distinguished record, and I certainly commend you for long service in the public interest. I think it is a very commendable career and I am sure you will have a successful one as a judge."

But, this week, it took Senator Kennedy no time at all to bow to his special interest group friends by charging, “If confirmed, Alito could very well fundamentally alter the balance of the court and push it dangerously to the right.”

And Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, taking his cue from the liberal talking points drafted by PFAW and Alliance for Justice, chimed in saying, “The Senate needs to find out if the man replacing Miers is too radical for the American people.”

In 1990, both Kennedy and Reid VOTED in favor of Judge Alito when he was confirmed to his current position on the Court of Appeals.  And now they say Judge Alito is “dangerous” and “extreme?”  Even worse, now some members of their party are even threatening to deny Judge Alito a fair up-or-down vote on his confirmation?

It is time to stand up to this liberal hypocrisy, overcome their threats of obstruction, and make sure the Senate confirms Judge Alito!

Just Who Is Judge Alito?

With Judge Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court, the President did what he promised to do.  He nominated a judge in the mold of Justices Scalia and Thomas.

Someone with a proven record of putting the Constitution first. And someone who understands that judges are supposed to carefully consider the law and the facts, not legislate from the bench.

He certainly understands the proper ―and limited ― role of a judge, and he’s a distinguished and experienced federal appeals court judge to boot.

As Assistant to the Solicitor General, he argued at least a dozen cases before the Supreme Court. And, he’s logged 15 years on the 3^rd Circuit Court of Appeals, where he has written more than 300 opinions.

In fact, he’s had more experience on a Court of Appeals than any Supreme Court nominee in 70 years!

And he’s left a paper trail that stretches from Philadelphia to Washington ― a record of fairness and insight that shows he values the Constitution.

Like Scalia and Thomas, he has been true to his judicial principles, and true to the Constitution – even when that meant he had to stand alone.

In short, he’s the man we expected President Bush to nominate.  And now we have to fight for the President’s courageous choice.

Moveon.org Is Gearing Up To Bork Alito!

The President announced his choice early in the morning and by noon the Leftwing hate groups had cranked up their smear machines.

They Borked Bork.  Now they want to Bork Alito.

MoveOn.org sent out a call to Leftwing ideologues hiding under slimy rocks from Boston to Seattle:

“Only hours after the nomination, the battle lines are already clear. Leading progressive groups that specialize in protecting the Court (including People For the American Way and the Alliance for Justice) have already launched an emergency campaign to defeat Alito's nomination—a step they did not take with either John Roberts or Harriet Miers.

"If we can gather 250,000 signatures in the next 48 hours, it will make a powerful first impression in the media, and the Senate. We can show that ordinary Americans will not let a failing president sacrifice the Supreme Court, and all the rights it protects, in a political game.”

You know these guys. They’re funded and controlled by billionaire George Soros who practically single-handedly funded the Left’s campaign against President Bush just last year. 

Soros is committed to turning America into a liberal utopia, but since he can’t win an election with his Leftist agenda, he’s counting on the Courts to keep pushing it forward.

But if we succeed in ending the Left’s domination of Supreme Court, the America George Soros is trying to create will be doomed.

And People For The American Way Is Gearing Up To Bork Alito Too!

Working in concert with Soros and MoveOn.org is People for the American Way, an organization that’s been leading the fight to keep judges who believe in the Constitution off the federal bench.

Of Judge Alito, Ralph Neas, president of People for the American Way, said:

“President Bush put the demands of his far-right political base above Americans' constitutional rights and legal protections by nominating federal appeals court Judge Samuel Alito to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor."

Neas announced that he was mobilizing 750,000 hard-left activists for a Borking expedition.

In case you’ve forgotten, it was People for the American Way that flat-out lied about Robert Bork in an ad voiced by Gregory Peck – charging that a Bork legal decision caused a group of women to seek sterilization in order to retain their jobs.

It wasn’t true. And People for the American Way knew it. But they slandered Judge Bork anyway. And, when the lie was exposed, they refused to apologize.

And they’ll do it again. Before this fight is over, you can be certain People for the American Way will lie shamelessly about Judge Samuel Alito.

In fact, before the sun set on the very day President Bush made his choice, liberal commentator Chris Matthews expressed genuine shock at a Democratic smear sheet already in circulation.

The first item on the list attempts to use Alito’s Italian background to tie him in with the Mafia.

Here is what Matthews said on the air:

"First Thing They Nail About This Italian American Is He Failed To Win A Mob Conviction In A Trial 20 Years Ago, Or Something Way Back In '88… In Other Words, They Nail Him On Not Putting Some Italian Mobsters In Jail From The [Lucchese] Family. Why Would They Bring Up This Ethnically Charged Issue As The First Item They Raise Against Judge Alito?"

Even Matthews ― a former staffer for Democratic House Speaker Tip O’Neil ― called the memo, “disgusting.”

We must not let lies again determine who does or doesn’t sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. We let that happen to Robert Bork. Let’s make a promise to each other right now: Never again!

And The Gang of 14 May Be Back In Action Too

Suppose the Democrats decide to filibuster this nomination – as they’ve done in the past? What then?

If that happens (and it may) the seven Republican Senators -- who sided with John McCain and joined forces with the Democrats last spring -- will find themselves in the headlights of a powerful and angry conservative movement.

You remember what they did!  They promised to vote against ending the filibuster and the seven Democrats promised not to vote against filibustering the President’s nominees to the judiciary – except under “extraordinary circumstances.”

Do you think Judge Alito will fall under the category of “extraordinary circumstances”?

It looks like some Democrats may claim that he does.

In that case, the Republican majority has the right – the duty ― to ensure a fair up-or-down vote by exercising “the nuclear option.”

You and I must demand that this be done – and that the seven Republicans vote with their party.

If we lose this opportunity to place a Constitutionalist on the Supreme Court, then we might as well throw in the towel and hand over our country to Teddy Kennedy and Chuck Schumer and George Soros and Ralph Neas.
