The world community needs to understand that the United States and its citizens view any proposal for global taxation as an unacceptable attack on our sovereignty. {Head}

Dear Friend,

In a 25-minute speech this week, President George W. Bush scolded the United Nations for its failure to confront former Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein for repeatedly violating U.N.-passed resolutions. The President also called out the world body for failing to have any teeth in fulfilling its stated mission of keeping the peace.

"The Security Counsel promised serious consequences for [Saddam Hussein's] defiance. And the commitments [the U.N.] make[s] must have meaning. When we say ‘serious consequences,' for the sake of peace, there must be serious consequences," the President told the 191 member countries of the United Nations.

Amen, Mr. President!

The President's speech followed Secretary General Kofi Annan's remarks in which he back-handedly slapped the United States, saying that the "rule of law is at risk around the world." Just last week, Annan publicly charged that the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was somehow "illegal."

U.S. taxpayers -- you and me -- are forced to pay for 22% of the U.N.'s budget, to the tune of billions of dollars per year. Yet time and time again, the U.N. works as nothing more than a forum to attack the United States and our interests. How dare the Secretary General preach to us about the rule of law when his own organization is wrought with corruption and bribery? Remember Oil-for-Food?

With your help, the Center for Individual Freedom is fighting back! We recently launched "U.N. Monitor," a new project to expose the U.N. for what it really is -- an Anti-American, democracy-hating, corrupt organization.

Last week, the Center kicked off its Fall Fundraising Drive. I want to personally thank all of you who have contributed thus far. Because of you, we are well on our way to meeting our fundraising needs for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins October 1.

If you haven't yet contributed, there is still time. Your contribution today will help fund our vital programs, including U.N. Monitor.

With your help, the Center's U.N. Monitor project can increase its efforts to hold the U.N. accountable. The only way we will be successful though is if we are able to reach millions of freedom-loving taxpayers across the country. Together, we must send the message loud and clear, WE ARE NO LONGER GOING TO TOLERATE THE U.N.'S ANTI-AMERICANISM.

In addition to the U.N.'s hate-America actions and rhetoric, the General Assembly is scheduled to consider proposals for the imposition of a U.N.-run global taxation scheme this month. That's right, the U.N. wants to tax the citizens of developed nations -- you and me -- in an effort to redistribute wealth to less developed, anti-democratic nations around the world. And to accomplish this scheme, the U.N. is considering Global Taxes on everything from the Internet to the gasoline we use in our automobiles.

The Center is leading the charge to combat global tax proposals. With your help, we can defeat these tax proposals once and for all.

How you ask?

The Center, together with tens of thousands of Americans across the country, is lobbying Congress to enforce Public Law 106-113. This law, passed by Congress in the late 1970s, states, "Advocacy of global taxes is reason for immediate suspension of U.S. funding of the U.N."

We need your help to put the pressure on Congress to enforce Public Law 106-113.

With your help, the Center will be able to put sufficient pressure on Congress to force the U.N. to abandon its calls for global taxation. Furthermore, freedom-loving Americans must band together to let the U.N. know that we are fed up with its anti-Americanism -- that American taxpayers are sick and tired of sending billions of dollars to the U.N. every year, money being spent to work against our interests.

Please consider a generous contribution to our Fall Fundraising Drive today. With your contribution, we can be successful in holding the U.N. accountable and defeating the world body's calls for Global Taxation.

Yours in Freedom,

Jeff Mazzella
Executive Director
