CFIF Launches 'Litigation Watch 2004'

LitigationWatch2004.com To Be Definitive Online Clearinghouse for Election-Related Litigation

ALEXANDRIA, Va. —
In anticipation of one of the closest and, indeed, most litigious presidential contests in U.S. history, the Center for Individual Freedom today launched Litigation Watch 2004, the definitive online clearinghouse for the status of and up-to-the-minute news and analysis about election-related litigation in key battleground states and across the country.

"The 2000 election laid the groundwork for this year’s presidential contest to be the most litigious in our nation’s history," said Jeffrey Mazzella, the Center’s Executive Director. "When one considers the fact that it’s still October and at least 35 lawsuits, challenging everything from ballot design to voter-registration fraud, have already been filed in 17 different states, to say that this election may be decided by the lawyers may be the understatement of the year.

"With both major political parties and independent groups training and deploying thousands of lawyers anxious to pull the litigation trigger in precincts across the country, Litigation Watch 2004 will enable the American people and the media to easily navigate what is sure to be an overwhelming legal maze that could once again determine the outcome of the presidential election," said Mazzella.

In addition to providing access to breaking news stories and analysis on the latest election-related legal activities across the country, Litigation Watch 2004 will also provide a status report on litigation in each relevant state. This section of the online clearinghous, when possible, will provide links to all legal briefs and opinions as soon as they’re available.

"We encourage all interested Americans and members of the media to visit the Litigation Watch 2004 website frequently for the latest news, legal briefs and analysis on the cases and controversies that are sure to command America’s attention in the days, and possibly weeks, after November 2. Litigation Watch 2004 will be updated throughout each day as news and developments warrant," Mazzella concluded.

The Center for Individual Freedom (www.cfif.org) is a nonpartisan constitutional advocacy organization with the mission to protect and defend individual freedoms and rights in the legal, legislative and educational arenas.
