Two locked steamer trunks stored in the basement vault of an Alexandria, Virginia, bank since 1917 were discovered in 2002 to contain personal and Lee family memorabilia belonging to Mary Custis Lee, the eldest daughter of General Robert E. Lee.  Press clippings found in the trunks reported the June 13, 1902 arrest of Miss Lee for "occupying that portion of a Washington, Mount Vernon & Alexandria electric car set apart for Afro-Americans."
