According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA), in 2006 (the most recent year of compiled statistics), the United States was importing 10,118,000 (ten million, one hundred eighteen thousand) barrels of crude oil per day.  Approximately half, or 5,517,000 (five million, five hundred seventeen thousand) of those barrels were imported from OPEC.

In 2006, the U.S. produced 5,102,000 (five million, one hundred and two thousand) barrels of crude per day, with Texas leading domestic production at 1,088,000 (one million, eighty-eight thousand) barrels per day.
