Americans observe Constitution Day annually on September 17, the date on which in 1787 the document was signed by the members of the Constitutional Convention and sent to Congress for ratification by the states.

New Hampshire claims the honor of putting the Constitution into effect, becoming the ninth state to ratify, on June 21, 1788.
