By now you have probably seen the Drudge Report exclusive, "Sen. Schumer Caught On Cell Phone: 'WE ARE GOING TO WAR OVER SUPREME COURT.'"

It's true!  Senators Chuck Schumer, Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid and their liberal allies are preparing for all-out war over the next Supreme Court nominee.

And if Schumer's statement doesn't convince you -- consider the fact that liberal special interest groups have already raised over $100 million dollars for this Supreme Court fight. 

In fact, these liberal special interest groups -- like Moveon.org -- have already raised more than 5 times what conservative groups have raised to wage this battle. And, you can bet that these groups are going to spend their $100 million plus to defeat the President’s choice -- regardless of who the nominee is.

Meanwhile, some of our conservative leaders have adopted a flawed "Cold War" strategy and are telling us to "tone down the rhetoric" and "keep our powder dry."

I know you will agree with me that our desire for a Supreme Court that respects the Constitution is NOT trite "rhetoric."

And this issue is too important for us to be suckered and hold back while the opposition mobilizes for all-out war.

It's time for some good old fashioned plain speaking.  And that's why our elected leaders need to hear from you RIGHT NOW!

MINORITY LEADER HARRY REID IS GOING TO WAR

Reid hosted a conference call with thousands of liberal activists on Wednesday at the behest of the DNC to actually formulate "wartime strategy" on this Supreme Court fight.

Let me share a few of the tidbits of this meeting with you:

     - Reid assured the activists that Senator Ben Nelson -- the Democratic leader of the "Gang of Fourteen" -- is NOW totally committed to the filibuster if the occasion warrants.

     - Reid said, "The Nuclear Option is GONE... it's OVER... it's HISTORY."  Reid then continued and -- once again -- reiterated his commitment to filibuster conservative nominees saying, "we will use all procedural tools we have at our disposal."

     - Reid expressed his disappointment at the meeting he and other key Senators had with President Bush hours earlier.  At that meeting, President Bush reached out to the Democrats and asked them to suggest nominees they thought would be acceptable. 

But Reid told the activists that the President's offer wasn't good enough and rambled derisively, "he reached out and called a lot of Senators... what do you think?... give us some names... that's not consultation.... we need to know the names of the people he's talking about."

It should be obvious that Reid wants to know the names of the nominees ahead of time so the $100 million dollar liberal "war-machine" can get busy "digging up dirt" on these potential nominees.

LIBERALS ALWAYS PLAY DIRTY IN THE JUDICIAL NOMINATION PROCESS

Liberal obstruction is nothing new.  When President Clinton nominated the liberal Justice Breyer and ACLU General Counsel Justice Ginsburg, Republican Senators -- believing that the President has the prerogative to nominate candidates of his liking to the court -- did not filibuster.

But liberals NEVER play by the rules and always send a clear -- even if sometimes unspoken -- message to Republican presidents: nominate judges to OUR liking or we'll obstruct the process.

You saw the scenario play itself out with the nomination of Judge Robert Bork.  The liberals tarred and feathered Bork.  They lied about his record and dragged his good name through the mud. 

You saw the scenario play itself out with Justice Clarence Thomas.  The liberals scoured the countryside and found Anita Hill -- a woman who many believe actually perjured herself before the Senate and put Justice Thomas through what he described as "a high-tech lynching."

I know you will agree that tax-paying Americans like you and me -- who voted for conservative government in November -- deserve a Supreme Court that doesn't legislate from the bench, a Court that doesn't sanction government seizures of our private property to benefit big developers and a Court that doesn't base its rulings on the laws of foreign third world countries.

And I know that you will agree that this battle over the Supreme Court is too important to lose.  Especially when you consider that Chief Justice Rehnquist may retire from the court, as well -- giving President Bush TWO nominations to the High Court.

That's why I'm calling on you to help.  We MUST be prepared to win this battle!
