Government-Run Health Care: The Wrong Prescription for America

In a plea to political supporters to pressure lawmakers to act with urgency on his plan to socialize America’s health care system, President Obama recently said that if Congress doesn't deliver legislation by the end of the year, the opportunity will be lost.

In response, several proposals were floated in Congress this week, including one by Senator Ted Kennedy. The Washington Post described Kennedy’s 170-page draft plan as “by far the most liberal approach to health-care reform.” Need we say more?

Conservatives for Patients’ Rights (“CPR”), an organization dedicated to educating and informing the public about the principles of patients’ rights and advancing the debate on health care reform, has been running television ads highlighting the downsides of a government-run plan. CPR Chairman and former Columbia/HCA Healthcare Association CEO Rick Scott describes Obama’s plan as “the first step towards socialized medicine.”

Recently, Scott joined CFIF’s Renee Giachino to discuss national health care reform and the four pillars that CPR claims any reform must include, namely, choice, competition, accountability and personal responsibility.
