Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton to President Bush:  Focus on Iran

This week, President Bush delivered his final State of the Union speech.  In addition to urging Congress to adopt an economic stimulus package and touting military gains in Iraq, President Bush focused on America's allies and enemies in the Middle East.

With respect to Iran, the President said, "Today, Iran remains the world's primary state sponsor of terror — pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom they seek and deserve. We are working with European allies to make clear to the Iranian regime that it must give up its uranium enrichment program and any plutonium reprocessing, and end its support for terror. And to the Iranian people, I say tonight: As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you."

Former U.S. Representative to the United Nations John Bolton agrees that the United States cannot ignore Iran, and North Korea, if we are to avoid a "Nuclear Holocaust."  In his most recent book, Surrender is Not an Option:  Defending America at the United Nations and Abroad, Mr. Bolton goes behind the scenes at the U.N. and the U.S. State Department to reveal why his efforts to defend American interests and reform the U.N. resulted in controversy.  Furthermore, he describes how the U.S. must take a more realist approach to global security.

Recently, Mr. Bolton joined CFIF's Renee Giachino to discuss his new book, America's threatened security, and the dramatic changes needed at the United Nations and in American government.
