Burk saw the lights and cameras and decided to resurface in order to capitalize on media frenzy over Annika Sorenstam's appearance... Martha Burk's Double Standard

You may be as tired of reading about Martha Burk as we are of writing about her, but it's just too hard to resist an opportunity to expose a hypocrite.

Last week, Burk saw the lights and cameras and decided to resurface in order to capitalize on media frenzy over Annika Sorenstam's appearance at the PGA's Bank of America Colonial tournament. Burk's take on Annika: Good for her, bad for women's sports. "I am not an advocate of integrating sports. It would destroy women's sports. What's the point of putting women at a natural disadvantage? We're not idiots. We know there are physical differences between men and women," Burk is quoted as saying.

At the end of an interview on ESPN's Rome is Burning, host Jim Rome asked Burk about the LPGA's bylaws that preclude someone not born a woman from playing in an LPGA tour event. Burk's response went something like "well, it is their rule and they are free to decide when and if to change it."

Well, well, well. Maybe Martha did learn something during her very public (and lonely) protest against Augusta National. Either that or she is a hypocrite.

We all heard, ad nauseam, Burk's criticism of Augusta National for not admitting a woman member. This, despite the fact that the law, and public opinion, were not on her side. Indeed, the Constitution, Congress and the courts continue to recognize the right of a private club to remain exactly that - private. In Martha's terms, that means they (Augusta and the LPGA) have their rules "and they are free to decide when and if to change" them.

Undoubtedly, anyone living outside of Burk's single-sex promotional world would agree that what's good for the goose should be good for the gander.
