The Center for Individual Freedom Names Karen Bailey Vice President of Public Affairs

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Center for Individual Freedom today is pleased to announce that Karen Bailey has joined its team as Vice President of Public Affairs.

Karen’s responsibilities will include the strategic planning and execution of advocacy campaigns focused on state and federal legislation in keeping with the Center’s mission -- to protect individual freedom and individual rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. The Center focuses on a broad number of issues including judicial confirmations, legal reform, taxation, campaign finance reform, energy and technology, among others.

"We are thrilled for Karen to join CFIF," said Jeffrey Mazzella, the Center’s Executive Director. "Her professionalism, enthusiasm and ‘never say die’ kind of attitude will undoubtedly help to build on the Center’s successes and reputation as an organization that gets things done. She is a great addition to our team."

Prior to joining the Center, Karen was the State Projects Manager at Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) where she was responsible for building state coalitions and managing ATR’s projects at the state level, including the state legislative advisory project. Prior to joining ATR, she worked as a member of the development team for the Institute for Justice. Karen also lived in Honolulu, Hawaii and worked as an account manger for Hawaii’s leading destination management company. After two years, she retired her surf board and returned to Washington, DC. Her experience also includes lobbying the Virginia State General Assembly on behalf of single-sex military education and completing an internship in the office of Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (MD).

"I am truly excited about the opportunity," said Bailey. "And I look forward to building on the Center’s successful track record."

A graduate of the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) at Mary Baldwin College, as a member of the first all-female military corps of cadets in the United States, and as a member of the Dean’s list, Karen received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Leadership Studies.
