The
Filibuster of Miguel Estrada
Miguel
Estrada's
American Dream did not end yesterday. It was, however, once again
stalled by 44 Democrats who refuse to end their unprecedented and
unconscionable filibuster of Estrada's nomination to the U.S. Court
of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Miguel
Estrada has the votes - Democrat and Republican - to gain confirmation.
The obstructionists know that. They know Estrada is qualified.
They know his refusal to play their ideological games is the only
proper response for a candidate for the country's second most important
court. They know that ideology is not the constitutional standard
for judicial confirmation. They know that legal advice given by
Estrada to Solicitors General both Democrat and Republican is not
his to reveal.
They
know. They just don't care.
