To wit, just seven months into his presidency, Biden is redefining the standard for a 'dangerously incompetent' administration.

Remember when American presidents were criticized for showing excessive strength in the Middle East?  

It wasn’t long ago.  

When President Donald Trump made good on multiple predecessors’ empty promises by relocating our Israeli embassy to Jerusalem, establishment voices like Joe Biden expressed outrage and predicted chaos.  Biden labeled it “short-sighted and frivolous,” apparently forgetting that he voted in favor of that relocation as a Senator in 1995.  

Then when President Trump smoke-checked murderous Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, a man with American soldiers’ blood on his hands, people like Biden warned of grave damage to U.S. credibility and interests.    

Biden’s admonition carries even more tragic irony given recent events in Afghanistan:  

President Trump just tossed a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox, and he owes the American people an explanation of the strategy and plans to keep safe our troops and embassy personnel, our people and our interests, both here at home and abroad, and our partners throughout the region and beyond…  We could be on the brink of a major conflict across the Middle East.  I hope the Administration has thought through the second and third-order consequences of the path they have chosen.  But I fear this Administration has not demonstrated at any turn the discipline or long-term vision necessary and the stakes could not be higher.  (emphasis added)

Biden even labeled the deadly strike “dangerously incompetent.”  You’ve got to hand it to Joe.  He may not know what day it is, but he apparently maintains a brilliant sense of irony.  

To wit, just seven months into his presidency, Biden is redefining the standard for a “dangerously incompetent” administration.  

One month after Biden angrily insisted that Afghanistan wouldn’t collapse, we’re witnessing perhaps the swiftest and most geopolitically consequential humiliation in U.S. history under his deliberate direction.  He chose this course, overruling his generals.  We possess the most powerful military in human history, but Biden’s own Defense Department spokesmen conceded this week that we possess neither a plan nor the capability to extract Americans who can’t get to the Kabul airport.  

In contrast, British paratroopers are reportedly running vehicle patrols and rescuing stranded U.K. citizens from occupied Kabul while the Biden Administration insists that it’s impotent to do the same for trapped Americans.  

Sadly, this catastrophic turn of events shouldn’t surprise anyone.  Just weeks ago, Biden earnestly lectured us that global warming is the greatest threat to national security.  The Green New Deal remained his focus of concern.  

Biden’s ghastly callousness toward anyone trapped in Taliban’s Afghanistan shouldn’t come as any surprise to anyone familiar with his personal history, either.  According to records from the Ford Administration, in 1975 Biden callously rejected proposals to rescue South Vietnamese fleeing the approaching North Vietnamese communists.  “I’m getting sick and tired of hearing about morality, our moral obligation,” Biden said at the time.  “The United States has no obligation to evacuate one – or 100,001 – South Vietnamese,” he added for good measure.  

What a guy.  

Then in 2010, according to Obama Administration diplomat Richard Holbrooke, Biden expressed the same disregard for Afghan girls trapped there if we withdrew.  “[Expletive] that, we don’t have to worry about that,” Biden said.  

Meanwhile, on Biden’s watch inflation is suddenly accelerating and at a disturbingly sustained pace.  Retail sales suddenly fell 1.1% in the U.S. during July across a broad swath of sectors, it was announced this week.  And according to Rasmussen Reports this week, fully 70% of Americans report that crime is now “out of control.”  

To top it off, Biden’s proposed budget reduces U.S. defense spending in real terms, even as he seeks unsustainable new levels of spending on every other demand by Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of the radical left.  

Whereas President Trump crushed ISIS after it metastasized during the Obama/Biden Administration, Biden’s weakness has geopolitical menaces like China, Russia and Iran salivating.  In response to events in Afghanistan, as just one example, Chinese media warned Taiwanese that the U.S. is an undependable ally that wouldn’t come to its defense if China invaded.  

Biden’s selling point as a candidate was his supposed steady hand, but as we warned a year ago, former Defense Secretary Robert Gates famously observed that Biden has been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”  

The Vice President, when he was a Senator, a very new Senator, voted against the aid package for South Vietnam, and that was part of the deal when we pulled out of South Vietnam to try and help them survive.  He said that when the Shah fell in Iran in 1979 that that was a step forward for progress toward human rights in Iran.  He opposed virtually every element of President Reagan’s defense buildup.  He voted against the B-1, the B-2, the MX and so on.  He voted against the First Gulf War.  So, on a number of these major issues, I just frankly over a long period of time felt that he had been wrong.  

Biden’s presidency merely continues that dangerous incompetence.  

We’ve presumably got three-and-a-half more years of Biden’s presidency, and it’s going to take a concerted and Herculean effort from more sober authorities to prevent even greater catastrophe.  Focusing on perils more serious than climate alarmism is the first step.
