A Discussion With American Civil Rights Union’s William Otis
New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and San Diego – those are just some of this country’s cities which prevent local police from cooperating with federal immigration authorities, to the detriment of national security and even public safety.
These “sanctuary cities” preclude local officials from reporting the presence of illegal aliens, even if the non-resident has committed a crime, and have become safe havens where illegal aliens can benefit from city services, while imposing additional costs on legal residents.
According to William G. Otis, Director of Legal Affairs for the American Civil Rights Union, in addition to imposing costs on city residents, sanctuary cities breed disrespect for the rule of law, burden and endanger localpolice, promote crime and thus jeopardize citizens.
Recently, Mr. Otis joined CFIF Corporate Counsel and Senior Vice President Renee Giachino to discuss why there is a clear consensus that illegal immigrants who break U.S. laws should not be given special rights or protection by local communities.
