On Labor Unions and the "Pro Act": |
|
| |
"[N]o one should be surprised that union efforts to organize workers at Amazon failed so miserably. But labor leaders and their Democratic allies have a solution they believe will keep those union dues and political contributions flowing: a bill designed to prop up labor unions by making it far easier to coerce unwilling workers into unionizing. It's called the 'Protecting the Right to Organize Act' (PRO Act), and the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives has already passed it.
"The PRO Act's provisions are draconian. Among other things, it would require that employers disclose employee contact information -- such as home addresses and phone numbers -- to union organizers. It would then undermine secret-ballot voting with a process called 'card check.' Basically, the union would know where workers live, where their kids go to school and, eventually, how they voted, making it easier to coerce these employees to vote for a union.
"If a business did unionize, the PRO Act would then compel union membership by eliminating laws in 27 states that grant workers who choose not to join a union the 'right to work' without being forced to join a union or pay union dues.
"The PRO Act is an acknowledgment that big labor is unable to grow private-sector union membership by doing a good job representing workers' interests. Instead, union leaders want to force union membership and union dues on unwilling employees, and their allies in the Democratic Party are prepared to apply the heavy hand of government to help them do it."

On the Biden Administration's Return to the 'Iran Deal': |
|
| |
"The former defense secretary Robert Gates famously wrote that Joe Biden 'has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.' If the early days of his presidency are any indication, Biden is determined to prove him right.
"Out of the gate, the administration is demonstrating to the mullahs in Tehran that it so badly wants back into the flawed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that it is willing to ignore Iran's terror attacks on American citizens and soldiers. ...
"They will find a way to return to the Iran deal, to remove the sanctions on Iran even as it persists in terrorizing the region, and to torment Israel as payback for the real and perceived slights of the Obama years." |

On Accountability for Dangerous Rhetoric: |
|
| |
"Republican Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise criticized Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters, accusing his colleague of using the kind of 'dangerous rhetoric' that got him shot.
"'Let's be clear: Maxine Waters knew her rhetoric would incite violence in Minneapolis -- but she doesn't care, she just requests police escorts for herself,' Scalise tweeted Monday.
"'I was shot because of this kind of dangerous rhetoric,' Scalise continued, referencing the 2017 shooting that targeted Republicans during practice for the annual Congressional Baseball Game."

On Fundamentally Transforming America (Again): |
|
| |
"Eight trillion dollars. That's how much President Joe Biden has proposed in new spending -- in just the 2 1/2 months since taking office. It's an absurd figure, equal to more than a third of America's entire yearly economic output.
"And it's overwhelmingly meant to transform the nation -- to empower and enrich Democratic special interests, lock in permanent Democratic control and impose radical left-wing ideas.
"Biden's latest hit: $1.52 trillion in discretionary spending. That follows $1.9 trillion for last month's American Rescue Plan, $2.3 trillion for Part I of his infrastructure plan and another $2 trillion or so expected soon for Part II.
"That mind-blowing $7.7 trillion total doesn't even count another $3 trillion or so in entitlement spending and $300 billion in debt-service costs; add that in, and you're talking about spending that's more than half the nation's $21 trillion output.
"Where would all the cash go? Mostly to Democratic allies and left-wing fantasies: unions and their members, Democratic states facing budget gaps, government bureaucrats, Green New Deal wish-lists and Dem-friendly corporations."

On the Perils of Politicizing SCOTUS: |
|
| |
"Democrats may well follow through on threats to add four new Justices to the Supreme Court -- though they have only three seats to spare in the House and a 50-50 tie in the Senate broken by Vice President Kamala Harris. But when Republicans inevitably retake the presidency and Congress they will retaliate by increasing the Supreme Court by another four or five Justices. Soon the Court will become just another agency, like the Education or Commerce Department, whose leadership will change with each presidential election.
"Such an outcome may prove satisfying to progressives determined to overthrow constitutional tradition. But it will come at the long-term cost of turning the federal courts into another openly partisan political body, rather than an institution that tries its best to do justice under neutral principles of law.
"There is a reason why the Supreme Court's size has remained nine Justices for more than a century: because our political parties realized that they should confine their competition to elections and policy, not changing the Constitution every two or four years." |

On Legislation Intended to Expand SCOTUS: |
|
| |
"Congressional Democrats are slated to introduce legislation on Thursday that would add four more justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, boosting the number of justices on the bench from nine to 13.
"Rep. Mondaire Jones of New York, Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York, Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia and Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts are backing the legislation and are slated to participate in a press conference about it on Thursday.
"'Supreme Court expansion is infrastructure,' Rep. Jones tweeted." |

On Making a New Deal With Iran: |
|
| |
"A Monday New York Times front page headline on the explosion at a key Iranian nuclear facility claimed the 'Attack May Hurt Efforts to Reboot 2015 Deal.' On Tuesday, also on the front page, the paper declared that 'Israel's Role in Iran Blast Casts A Shadow on U.S. Nuclear Talks'.
"Get it? Making a new deal with Iran is a very good thing, anything that hurts the chance is a very bad thing, including Israel.
"Here's an alternative view: the Times is still drinking the Kool-Aid that the original Iranian nuclear pact was a success and is worth saving. To committed dead enders, Iran's violations of the terms and spread of regional terrorism are irrelevant."

On Georgia Voting Law Lies: |
|
| |
"Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., admitted to signing off on false information in a third-party advocacy group's email that went out about the Georgia voting law after it passed.
"The Washington Post flagged an email Warnock signed from the liberal nonprofit 3.14 Action as an example of Democratic misinformation about the sweeping Georgia voting reforms, as it claimed the new law restricted weekend early voting and ended no-excuse mail voting.
"'Sen. Raphael G. Warnock, one of two new Democratic senators representing Georgia, signed an email sent out by the advocacy group 3.14 Action after the law passed, which claimed it ended no-excuse mail voting and restricted early voting on the weekends -- also early proposals that did not become law,' the Post reported. ...
"Biden has also disseminated false information about the law, getting Four Pinocchios from The Washington Post's Fact-Checker for claiming the law limits voting hours."

On the Economic Boom and the 'Need' for President Biden's Infrastructure Plan: |
|
| |
"Job growth exploded in March, with 916,000 nonfarm positions added, far outpacing projections. Under ordinary circumstances, politicians would be rushing to microphones to tout the good news.
"But President Biden never mentioned it. And when Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said economic projections looked great, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi quickly contradicted him.
"Why? Because telling the truth about the booming economy puts a lie to the idea that Biden's $2.3 trillion 'infrastructure' package is necessary, or even responsible."

On President Biden's 'Unity' Agenda: |
|
| |
"Oddly, after dedicating his inauguration to national unity, Biden has abandoned the pursuit entirely. ...
"It's not clear what changed so drastically for Biden since his inauguration. Reporters say he now envisions himself as the next FDR -- changing our country through massive government intervention. In a nation as divided as ours, this sort of aggressive left-wing movement is sure to increase the already gaping political fault lines. It's also likely to boomerang. People did not vote for change of this nature. Just because it may be possible to squeeze through these changes doesn't mean it's smart. The political backlash could be severe.
"The saddest part is Biden never even gave a unity agenda a chance. Our country needs the healing he promised. Biden delivers the opposite." |
